DBACE Shortlisters! Shifting the game concept.

Hello everybody!

We have some fantastic news to share, we have been shortlisted in the Deutsche Bank Award for Creative Enterprises within the Craft and Design category and we couldn't be happier. Every year this competition is run and they get hundreds of entries, our proposal of our indie studio with the games we aim to create has caught the eye of the judges and we get the chance to pitch our game to them in person in London on May 17th. We are also honoured to be the first people to shortlisted for the award from De Montfort University, all thanks to the DMU Enterprise team who have been incredibly supportive of our efforts.

Because of the shortlisting we have also won a two day business course in London over the summer, that we will use to boost our knowledge and understanding even further!

Essentially, this now means we have a lot more work on our hands over the next few weeks, myself and Amber have just returned home for the Easter break. However, it seems there won't be much of the break part: We need to prepare a 20 minute pitch for the judges alongside getting the base game concept up together, as well as working on some of the kinks of the business plan as asked of us by the judges. A lot to accomplish in the time!

This is also coupled with the fact that we have decided to go back to the idea stage a little bit which means we are still figuring out they game we are making. This is because our game unintentionally seemed a little too close in plot to a recent indie game, we decided it would be better to go down a different route and pursue some more zany ideas and rework what we had already into a different concept...

We have a few concepts floating about that we are trying to build on a bit more, the most promising concepts at the moment though stem from thinking about how dreams can be represented in a game, thinking of Lovecraftian tales and how reality is perceived. This seems to be getting us some really interesting gameplay and narrative concepts that we will share in our upcoming posts.

Until next time!

-James
